Description
The Arnold & Son Double Tourbillon 1DTAW.Z01A.C121W is a piece unique executed in 18-carat white gold with an Apple Green nephrite-jade dial and white-opal time displays. Rather than presenting a second time zone through a conventional GMT hand, the watch uses two independent tourbillons and two separately adjustable subdials.
The design recalls the chronometric legacy of John Arnold, the 18th-century English watchmaker whose marine chronometers accompanied navigators including James Cook. Here, that history is expressed through a highly decorative construction in which rare stone, independent time-zone regulation, and a symmetrical double-tourbillon layout are combined.
The polished white-gold case is fitted with separate crowns at 2 and 7 o’clock for winding and independently setting the two time displays. A domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides accommodates the height of the tourbillons, while a sapphire exhibition caseback reveals the movement and its finishing.
A clover-shaped dial plate is cut from Wyoming-sourced “Apple Green” nephrite jade, whose subtle black veining gives every section of the stone an individual appearance. A white-opal subdial at 12 o’clock shows local time with black Roman numerals, while the subdial at 6 o’clock indicates reference time with Arabic numerals. Both displays use blued, openworked arrow-tipped hands and can be adjusted to minute-based offsets, including 15-, 30-, and 45-minute time zones.
Two one-minute tourbillons are positioned horizontally at 3 and 9 o’clock beneath three-dimensional, skeletonized white-gold cantilevered bridges. The manual-winding Caliber A&S8513 contains 42 jewels, operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, and uses twin barrels to provide a 90-hour power reserve. Its decoration includes radiant Côtes de Genève, a circular-grained main plate, double-snailed barrels, sunray-brushed crown wheels, polished gold chatons, and bevelled, mirror-polished screw heads.
A black alligator-leather strap with an 18-carat white-gold folding clasp completes the watch, and water resistance is rated to 30 meters. This one-of-one example dates to 2022, was originally priced at $250,000, and is presented in pre-owned, very good condition with its original box and original papers.
