Description
In Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept 26221FT.OO.D002CA.01 'Michael Schumacher' Laptimer (2017), a chronograph is presented through a 44mm carbon case, an openworked dial, and a manual-winding movement.
The 44mm case in forged carbon is paired with a brushed titanium octagonal bezel, black ceramic pushers and crown, and a titanium display caseback engraved with Schumacher's signature.
Two central chronograph seconds hands operate independently or simultaneously, allowing the wearer to time consecutive laps without interruption — a complication that had never existed mechanically before its 2015 debut. The openworked dial reveals the architecture beneath, featuring luminescent 18-karat white gold hands, a thirty-minute counter at three, and small seconds at nine.
The hand-wound Caliber 2923 — comprising 413 components and three column wheels, two of which drive the patented laptimer — delivers an 80-hour power reserve, completed by a black rubber strap with titanium folding clasp.
Designed in collaboration with the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion and engineered by AP's high-complications subsidiary Renaud & Papi, the reference is limited to just 221 pieces, the precise number of Grand Prix races in which Schumacher competed.
Dated 2017, this example is offered in pre-owned (very good) condition with its original box and original papers.
